Oregon State Police are trying to piece together what caused a fatal car crash on a quiet stretch of Interstate 84 early Sunday.
The wreck happened around 12:23 a.m. near milepost 140 just outside Arlington in rural Gilliam County.

According to police reports, 24-year-old Adhishwar Ramanathan of Umatilla was traveling east in a white Toyota Avalon when his car suddenly left the paved lane.
The Toyota hit the end of a highway guardrail, spinning around from the force of the collision.
First responders found the vehicle resting backward in the eastbound lanes, facing westbound.
Ramanathan died at the scene before he could be transported to a medical facility.
The Oregon Department of Transportation assisted troopers and Gilliam County deputies at the crash site while investigators worked without blocking traffic flow.
State police say it remains unclear whether fatigue, speed, or a distraction caused the sedan to drift off course, and the investigation remains open.
