Katherine McGee and Skyler McGee were killed Friday afternoon in a severe traffic collision along one of Lauderdale County’s busiest corridors. The crash halted traffic near Killen as multiple emergency teams rushed to control the scene and clear the roadway.

The collision happened just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 72 and County Road 31. A pickup truck hit a motorcycle carrying both Katherine and Skyler, causing immediate damage across the lanes.

Killen police officers arrived alongside first responders from the Killen Fire Department, Center Star Fire Department, and the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office. Despite quick response times from field medics, both victims on the motorcycle passed away at the scene.

Emergency medical technicians focused immediate attention on the driver of the pickup truck. EMS workers stabilized the driver on the pavement before rushing the individual to North Alabama Medical Center for emergency treatment.

The Killen Police Department purposely delayed releasing the names of those involved to the public. Chief officers stated they wanted to ensure relatives were notified in person by family or law enforcement rather than learning about the tragic news through social media feeds.

Multiple agencies, including the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s Office, Alabama State Troopers, and the Coroner’s Office, are collaborating on the crash investigation. Officers spent hours measuring skid marks, checking vehicle damage, and interviewing potential witnesses at the crash site.

Local authorities continue to urge the public to give both families privacy as the official inquiry moves forward. Police noted that further technical details about speed, right-of-way, and road conditions will be released once the accident reconstruction report is fully finished.
