Police have identified 44-year-old Martial Wilkerson as the driver of a semi-truck involved in a fatal three-vehicle wreck in eastern Iowa. The collision occurred Tuesday evening along South Cody Road near West Canal Shore Drive.

Traffic was moving as usual until the southbound semi-truck hit two northbound cars. The sudden crash blocked both lanes and brought local traffic to a complete standstill.

According to preliminary reports, one of the northbound vehicles slid under the semi’s trailer during the collision. The impact destroyed the smaller car and left severe wreckage across the pavement.

Moriah Atanasia Rosa, 32, was driving one of the cars involved in the impact. Medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene shortly after arriving.

Three children, aged two, five, and nine, were riding in the car with Rosa at the time of the crash. Emergency medical technicians pulled the young victims from the car and transported them immediately to a regional trauma center.

Hospital officials confirmed that all three children were placed in critical care. Local authorities have not released further details regarding their specific injuries.

The LeClaire Police Department and state troopers kept the road blocked off late into the night. Officers are reviewing vehicle telemetry and speaking with witnesses to determine why the semi-truck crossed paths with oncoming traffic.
