A Sunday evening meeting in a Kendall County parking lot ended in a fatal hit-and-run that took the life of a 23-year-old Sandwich resident. Victor M. Hernandez Medina died from injuries he sustained when a vehicle struck him intentionally near East Veterans Parkway.
Police said Medina and another adult arranged to meet someone in the commercial area shortly before 5:15 p.m. The meeting took place in the 300 block of East Veterans Parkway, outside a local gym.

Witness accounts and early police findings indicate that the driver turned the vehicle toward both pedestrians after they met. The driver then stepped on the gas and hit Medina and his companion directly before fleeing the scene.
Emergency crews arrived at the shopping plaza within minutes of the crash call. They found both victims lying on the pavement with severe injuries and immediately started medical treatment.
Paramedics transported both men to a nearby hospital for emergency care. Medina died shortly after arriving at the medical facility due to the severity of his injuries.
The second victim survived the incident. Hospital staff treated him for injuries that police described as non-life-threatening, and he remains in stable condition.
Medina lived in nearby Sandwich, a small city about fifteen miles west of Yorkville. Friends and local residents are left waiting for answers as investigators work to determine what led to the scheduled parking lot meeting.
