Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers are piece-by-piece reconstructing a fatal early morning collision on Interstate 10 in Jackson County. The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Moss Point driver Latara Broadnex and sent another motorist to the hospital.
According to initial crash reports from state authorities, Broadnex was traveling westbound on I-10 in a 2025 Honda Accord when her vehicle collided with an eastbound car. The sheer force of the impact left both vehicles heavily damaged in the roadway.

Troopers responding to the scene found Broadnex with severe trauma from the wreck. Responders evaluated her at the crash site, but her injuries proved fatal, and officials pronounced her dead where her car came to a rest.
The driver operating the second vehicle sustained significant injuries during the crash. Emergency medical technicians treated the driver on site before rushing them to a local medical center for further treatment.
State officials have withheld the second driver’s identity and medical status as the open investigation continues. Authorities have not yet indicated whether speed, weather, or driver impairment played a role in the fatal crash.
Accident reconstruction teams spent several hours examining roadway marks, vehicle positioning, and debris field distribution along I-10. Troopers are working to build a complete timeline of events leading up to the collision.
For residents across Jackson County and the city of Moss Point, the crash stands as a stark reminder of how quickly routine travel on Interstate 10 can turn deadly. MHP officers urge anyone who witnessed the crash or saw either vehicle prior to impact to contact investigators.
