Anon Vaughn Hoffman, a 21-year-old from Montgomery, Texas, lost his life Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash in rural Austin County. Hoffman worked as a detention officer with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 1:05 p.m. at the rural intersection of FM 2502 and FM 2754 near Bellville, an area southeast of Houston. Hoffman was riding his 2024 Harley-Davidson southwest along FM 2754 when he reached the crossing.

According to state troopers, Hoffman came to a stop at the posted stop sign before moving into the intersection. As he entered, his motorcycle collided with a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas heading southeast on FM 2502.
The force of the collision threw Hoffman off the Harley. First responders rushed to the scene shortly after the crash, but Hoffman was pronounced dead right there at the intersection.
Hoffman had worked as a detention officer for two years. Colleagues said he genuinely loved his job at the jail and built strong bonds with his shift mates, who described his presence as steady and dependable.
His roots at the sheriff’s office run deep. Hoffman’s father serves as a sergeant with the agency, and his mother works in the Central Jail Records Division. Sheriff Wesley Doolittle called the loss unimaginable for the department family.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 49-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old passenger were not injured. Paramedics took both of them to Mid Coast Medical Center-Bellville for a precautionary medical evaluation.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are continuing their investigation into the fatal collision. Preliminary reports point to an apparent failure to yield, but investigators have not released a final cause.
