A Saturday night out took a tragic turn in Southeast Texas when 21-year-old Alyssa Messina lost her life in a sudden car crash. The Vidor native was riding shotgun when the car she was in smashed into a parked flatbed trailer on Bigner Street. Emergency crews pronounced her dead right at the scene.

Alyssa was a young woman with her whole life ahead of her. Growing up down the road in Vidor, she built strong ties with family and local friends. Her sudden passing sent shockwaves through town as folks woke up to the news on Saturday morning.

The crash happened just after 2:00 a.m. near the Salt Water Barrier in Beaumont. Police officers were already heading toward the 6700 block of Bigner Street after getting calls about a massive crowd disturbance breaking out in the area.

Before officers could even pull up, dispatchers warned them that several cars were speeding away from the scene. Drivers were gunning their engines to clear out fast, turning the street into a dangerous zone in the dark.

The car Alyssa was riding in never made it out of the neighborhood. The driver tried to make a sharp curve, lost control, and slammed directly into a heavy flatbed trailer parked along the side of the road.

While Alyssa died on impact in the front seat, the driver survived with severe injuries. First responders rushed the driver out of town to a hospital in Houston, where medical staff listed them in critical condition.

Beaumont police investigators stayed on Bigner Street for hours to map out the wreckage and work out how fast the car was going. Officers say the case is still wide open as they piece together what caused the gathering to turn into a fatal crash.
