A dangerous stretch of road in New Castle County claimed another life Thursday evening when a pedestrian was hit and killed on North DuPont Highway. The victim, identified as 57-year-old Wilmington resident Nanette Archie-Snow, died from her injuries after stepping into northbound traffic near Stahl Avenue around 7:30 p.m.
The collision happened in the right northbound lane as a Toyota Corolla headed up Route 13. According to preliminary findings from the Delaware State Police, Archie-Snow walked into the travel lane directly in front of the oncoming sedan. The driver had little time to react before striking her.

The woman behind the wheel was an 18-year-old driver from New Castle. She remained unhurt during the crash and pulled over right away. Emergency crews responded within minutes, securing the scene and rushing Archie-Snow to a local trauma center, where medical staff later pronounced her dead.
North DuPont Highway is one of the most heavily traveled commercial corridors in northern Delaware. With multiple lanes of fast-moving traffic and spread-out crosswalks, the area near Stahl Avenue can be particularly tricky for pedestrians attempting to cross after sunset.
Following the impact, state troopers shut down all northbound lanes near the crash site. Traffic was detoured onto side streets for about two and a half hours while crash reconstruction experts surveyed the roadway, collected evidence, and cleared the vehicle.
Members of the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are still working to piece together the exact timeline leading up to the impact. Investigators are reviewing lighting conditions, vehicle speed, and street visibility to understand why Archie-Snow crossed at that specific spot.
Authorities have not filed any charges as the investigation remains open. Lead investigator Corporal M. DiMaio has urged witnesses or drivers with dashcam video from North DuPont Highway around 7:30 p.m. on September 17 to contact the Delaware State Police.
