A quiet weekend night in El Dorado Hills ended in horror after a high-speed vehicle crash killed three young people and sent another to the hospital.
Around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 28-year-old Alejandra Mendoza of Sacramento was driving a 2024 Tesla Model Y westbound on Serrano Parkway. As the car approached Terracina Drive, it veered off the asphalt and slammed straight into a tree along the side of the road.

The force of the collision threw 30-year-old passenger Charles Anthony Cameron of Sacramento out of his seat. Emergency responders located him outside the car, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Seconds after striking the tree, the Tesla burst into heavy flames. The fire quickly consumed the vehicle, making it impossible for witnesses to rescue those trapped inside.
Firefighters worked to put out the intense blaze. Once the scene was clear, officers found Mendoza and 28-year-old passenger Kailauna Viola Mills dead inside the vehicle.
One passenger survived the deadly wreck. A 28-year-old Sacramento woman was able to crawl out of the burning car with help from people who pulled over at the scene. She was taken to a local hospital with severe injuries.
California Highway Patrol closed Serrano Parkway for several hours overnight to clear the wreck and gather evidence. Officers are still investigating what caused the driver to lose control on the quiet suburban street.
