Athomas Raqueen Lewis lost his life late Wednesday night after a quick argument on an Anderson street turned violent. The 33-year-old local resident was stabbed multiple times on North Hammett Street, close to South Main Street.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after getting a call about a stabbing. Paramedics loaded Lewis into an ambulance and took him straight to AnMed Health. Doctors worked on him in the emergency room, but he died from his injuries a short time later.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office looked into the case and officially ruled Lewis’s death a homicide. Officials confirmed that multiple stab wounds killed him. A full autopsy is set to help investigators clear up the exact details of his injuries.

Deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office spent hours working the scene along North Hammett Street. They found out that Lewis got into a verbal fight with someone on the block. That argument quickly turned into a physical fight, and someone pulled a knife.

While officers were securing the scene, they found Terry Lorenzo Rainey right in the area. Deputies took Rainey into custody on an active probation and parole warrant. Detectives then marked him as a person of interest in the fatal stabbing.

Sheriff’s officials have not filed new charges against Rainey for Lewis’s death yet. Detectives are still putting pieces together, gathering physical evidence, and talking with people who live on the street. Charges could still be added as the case moves forward.

Friends and relatives in Anderson are left grieving a sudden loss in their neighborhood. Sheriff’s deputies are asking anyone who saw the fight or heard anything along North Hammett Street Wednesday night to come forward and talk to investigators.
