A driver waiting at a Baton Rouge intersection had no warning before an oncoming car hit the curb, flipped, and crashed into them on Tuesday morning. The violent collision on Perkins Road took the life of 22-year-old Malachi Antoine and left another person fighting for survival.

Police officers responded to the 7900 block of Perkins Road near Bles Avenue on September 15, 2026. When officers arrived at the scene, they found two badly damaged vehicles blocking the roadway and medical teams working on both drivers.

Investigators quickly began mapping out the crash scene to figure out what caused the fatal wreck. Initial findings indicate Antoine was traveling eastbound on Perkins Road at high speed right before losing control.

The fast-moving car ran off the right side of the pavement and struck a concrete curb. The impact sent the car rolling over into the air, throwing it directly into the path of the waiting car.

The second driver was stopped on Bles Avenue, holding position while trying to turn onto Perkins Road. The tumbling vehicle hit the stopped car head-on, causing heavy damage to both automobiles.

Emergency medical personnel transported both individuals to a nearby hospital immediately. Antoine was pronounced dead after arrival, while the second driver remains in critical condition under close medical supervision.

Officers are still looking into all factors surrounding the high-speed crash on Perkins Road. Meanwhile, neighbors and family members are coping with the tragic aftermath of a morning wreck that changed multiple lives in seconds.
