A weekend trip ended in a fatal wreck on Interstate 95 North late Saturday, September 12, 2026, prompting an active state police investigation. The crash occurred along a busy stretch of highway right before the Branch Avenue overpass in Providence.
Inside the car was 30-year-old Leneth Fisher of Cranston, who was sitting in the passenger seat. For reasons investigators are still trying to figure out, the driver lost control and the vehicle flipped over multiple times.

The impact of the rollover threw both Fisher and the driver completely out of the car. Other motorists traveling along the highway witnessed the wreck and dialed 911 immediately.
First responders got to the scene near Branch Avenue within minutes. They located both occupants lying on the road with severe injuries, requiring emergency medical treatment on the spot.
Crews placed Fisher and the driver into separate ambulances and headed straight for Rhode Island Hospital. Doctors in the trauma center evaluated both patients upon arrival and began emergency treatment.
Fisher died from her injuries at the hospital despite efforts by trauma doctors. Her death was confirmed later that night, bringing a heartbreaking end to the weekend accident.
The driver was placed in critical care, where medical staff continue to work on stabilizing their condition. State police have not yet released the driver’s identity as the investigation moves forward.
Rhode Island State Police are asking anyone who saw the vehicle before the crash to come forward. Investigators are checking road marks, vehicle damage, and area traffic records to figure out exactly how the accident happened.
