A young child picked up the phone Monday afternoon to make a call no kid should ever have to make. That emergency call sent Columbus police rushing to a home on Bannon Court, near Tussing Road on the city’s southeast side, where officers found 33-year-old Monu Rijal dead inside.

Beside Rijal, officers discovered the body of 41-year-old Bhim Mishra. Homicide investigators looking into the scene quickly pinpointed the case as a suspected murder-suicide.

Detectives say all signs point to Mishra killing Rijal before turning the weapon on himself. Officers have not yet released the specific details on how either person died, but the scene left little doubt about the nature of the crime.

The incident unfolded inside a quiet residential neighborhood on the southeast side of town. The child’s call to 911 came in during the early afternoon, reporting that someone inside the house was unresponsive.

When patrol cars arrived on Bannon Court, officers secured the residence and called in homicide detectives to handle the investigation. Neighbors watched as police taped off the yard and began collecting evidence from inside the home.

Columbus police have remained quiet about what led up to the violence. Investigators are still working to piece together the timeline and find out what triggered the dispute between Rijal and Mishra that afternoon.

For now, the case stays open as coroner officials work to determine the exact cause of death for both Rijal and Mishra. Authorities are asking anyone with extra information about the pair to come forward as the neighborhood tries to make sense of what happened.
