A fatal weekend crash at a South Plainfield intersection remains under active investigation after a left-turning SUV hit a motorcycle on Saturday evening.
Police dispatchers received an emergency 911 call at approximately 7:22 p.m. on September 12 reporting a severe two-vehicle accident at Clinton Avenue and Ledden Terrace.

First responders arriving at the scene discovered 27-year-old South Plainfield resident Sierra Grey, who was operating a Honda SBR1000 motorcycle at the time of the crash.

Investigators determined that a Subaru Outback driven by a 76-year-old local resident was turning left onto Ledden Terrace from Clinton Avenue when the motorcycle struck the SUV’s front driver’s side.

Grey sustained fatal injuries from the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. The 76-year-old driver was evaluated at the location and reported no injuries.

Sergeant Shane McCoid of the South Plainfield Police Department and Detective James Barnes from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are heading the joint probe to reconstruct the exact timeline and cause of the crash.

Law enforcement officials continue to collect physical evidence and examine the intersection layout. Police encourage anyone with information or eyewitness accounts to reach out to Middlesex County prosecutors or South Plainfield officers.
