Rockford police officers are putting together the pieces of a broad daylight collision that took a motorcyclist’s life over the weekend. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Holmes Street.
Investigators say 33-year-old Jair Vera Molina was heading westbound on Harrison Avenue when his motorcycle hit another vehicle. The collision blocked lanes and brought afternoon traffic to a standstill.

Emergency crews arrived within minutes and found Molina lying in the roadway with serious physical trauma. Paramedics immediately provided care at the scene before transport.
An ambulance took Molina to a nearby hospital under emergency conditions. Despite fast work by trauma surgeons, he was pronounced dead at 3:02 p.m.
The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office formally identified Molina later that day. Officials notified his family before releasing his name publicly to the press.
Accident reconstruction units spent several hours analyzing the crash site. Investigators checked vehicle placement, evaluated road conditions, and took statements from the other driver involved.
The investigation into what caused the crash remains open. Authorities are asking anyone with dashcam footage or additional information about the incident to contact Rockford police.
