A nine-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after surviving a devastating rollover wreck on Interstate 95 that claimed the life of a 38-year-old Melbourne driver. The Saturday morning crash ended in the tree line along the highway, leaving emergency crews scrambling to rescue the young survivor.
The incident unfolded in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Ormond Beach in Volusia County. State troopers reported that the car swerved off the right side of the interstate without warning, traveling off the highway embankment and flipping over multiple times before coming to a stop in the heavy woods.

Emergency personnel responding to the dispatch found a severe crash site shrouded in the trees off the roadway. Firefighters and paramedics worked quickly to extract both occupants from the crumpled vehicle and secure the scene for transport.
The young passenger was rushed to a local hospital for urgent evaluation. Medical staff confirmed the girl suffered injuries in the crash, but doctors expect her to recover physically from her wounds in the coming days.
The driver, identified as Alicia Kelley, sustained critical injuries during the rollover. Emergency medical services transported her directly to AdventHealth Daytona Beach, where medical personnel performed emergency procedures. She was pronounced deceased at the hospital a short time later.
Back home in Melbourne and in military communities abroad, those who knew Kelley are struggling to process the tragic news. Friends who knew her during her time in Japan remembered her as a pillar of strength and kindness, noting that her loss leaves a massive void for her family, including Tyzon and Ava.
Florida Highway Patrol officers are keeping the northbound stretch under review as they complete their crash investigation report. While investigators work to determine whether road conditions or mechanical issues played a role, loved ones are rallying around the young girl as she begins the long healing process without her mother.
