A routine Saturday morning drive along a rural stretch of Alabama highway ended in sudden tragedy for a Lineville resident. Myong J. So, 66, was driving his 2007 Toyota Camry along Alabama 48 when his car veered off the road late Saturday morning. The vehicle struck a road sign post, resulting in fatal injuries before emergency responders could render life-saving aid.
The crash happened at approximately 11:38 a.m. near the intersection of Randolph County 90. The spot sits roughly four miles west of the Wedowee city limits, a quiet section of two-lane road flanked by open trees and rural shoulders. Weather conditions and early morning traffic patterns on that stretch were calm as the Camry traveled along its path.

According to state law enforcement reports, So was traveling alone in the sedan when the incident occurred. For reasons that remain under active investigation, the Toyota drifted off the right side of the pavement. It traveled onto the grassy shoulder before colliding directly with the sign post structure mounted along the roadside.
First responders from nearby Randolph County emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the 11:38 a.m. dispatch call. Rescue crews attempted to assess So’s condition immediately upon reaching the crashed vehicle. However, the impact left him with critical injuries, and paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Neighbors and community members in nearby Lineville woke up to the somber news later that afternoon. Lineville is a tight-knit town in Clay County, situated just a short drive west from where the accident occurred across the Randolph County line. Word of the loss spread quickly among local residents who knew So from around town.
State troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division arrived on scene to secure the area and collect physical evidence. Traffic along Alabama 48 was temporarily restricted while investigators mapped out the path of the vehicle, measured tire marks, and examined the post impact site.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has officially opened an investigation into the crash to determine what caused the Camry to leave the roadway. Officers have not yet released preliminary details regarding potential mechanical issues, medical emergencies, or road conditions. Further updates will follow as troopers finalize their collision report.
