Alicia Kelley was heading northbound on Interstate 95 early Saturday morning when a routine drive turned fatal. The 38-year-old Melbourne resident died after her vehicle drifted across lanes, overcorrected, and flipped into the trees along the highway.

The crash happened around 7:43 a.m. in Volusia County, just south of U.S. 1 near mile marker 271 in Ormond Beach. Kelley was at the wheel of a 2007 Toyota Scion tC, cruising in the outside lane before shifting toward the center lane.

State troopers reported that Kelley suddenly yanked the steering wheel back to the right to overcorrect. The sudden movement sent the compact car sweeping off the pavement and rolling straight into the thick woodline lining the interstate.

First responders rushed to the scene and pulled Kelley from the wreckage. Paramedics transported her to AdventHealth Daytona Beach, but doctors could not save her, and she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

A 9-year-old girl from Melbourne was sitting inside the car during the violent rollover. Emergency crews rushed the child to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where medical staff treated her for non-life-threatening injuries.

Friends and neighbors in Melbourne are processing the sudden loss of a woman who meant so much to her family and community. People who knew Kelley remember her as a loving daughter and friend whose sudden absence leaves a quiet void behind.

Florida Highway Patrol officers remain on scene and in the area investigating the crash sequence. Investigators are working to pinpoint what caused the vehicle to drift from its lane during the quiet morning drive.

For Kelley’s family and the young survivor, the coming weeks will involve quiet recovery and grieving. Friends and community members continue offering prayers and support as the 9-year-old passenger heals from her injuries.
