Diane Lister was just driving her Cadillac on Interstate 70 near Junction City when a pickup came the wrong way and hit her head-on. She was 62 and lived in Chapman. The crash killed her right there on Wednesday afternoon.
Seth Moreland drove that Ford F-150. He was 41 and from Caney. Deputies from the Geary County Sheriff’s Office had been chasing him west on the highway. He pulled off near the Washington Street exit then turned back onto I-70 the wrong direction.

The truck smashed into Lister’s Cadillac XT5 in the interchange area around milepost 296.9. Both drivers died from their injuries. No one else was in either vehicle.
Lister ran Lucky Charm Quilts in Chapman. Friends knew her for that shop. She was a partner in the business according to local listings. Folks in the small Dickinson County town lost one of their own that day.
Moreland had been heading west when the chase started. Authorities still have not said why deputies went after him. The Kansas Highway Patrol handled the investigation after the wreck.
The highway shut down for a while near exit 296. Traffic had to detour until crews cleared the scene. Both people were pronounced dead at the site.
This kind of wrong-way crash leaves families broken and a whole stretch of road marked by sudden loss. Lister was going about her day. Moreland was running from the law. The head-on impact ended both lives in seconds.
