Early Friday a crash at State Routes 51 and 795 in Ottawa County claimed the life of Sergeant Jacob Roesler. The 26-year-old Clay Township officer was answering a call about a separate wreck when everything went wrong.
He had three years on the job. Coworkers remember him as someone who took the work seriously and treated people right. He made an impact on the department and the folks he protected every shift.

Jacob found joy in outdoor time and the company of family, friends, and his dog. Those pieces of everyday life defined him as much as the badge did. People close to him hold onto those memories now.
The wreck knocked down a utility pole and cut power nearby. Detours went up quick. One other person was injured and is being thought of by everyone following the news.
The Clay Township Police Department said Jacob was a dedicated public servant. They mourn with his family, friends, and the officers who worked alongside him. The loss hits deep in a small department like theirs.
Law enforcement across the region offered support. The dangers of the job showed up in the worst way this morning. Jacob answered the call and did not make it home.
His service leaves a mark that will not fade. The community remembers a young officer who gave his all.
