An official investigation remains underway in Clinton County after a weekend off-road vehicle crash claimed the life of 54-year-old Hogansburg resident Robbie D. Grant and a young driver. The crash happened on Sunset Road in the town of Dannemora around 6:51 p.m. on Saturday, bringing state troopers and rescue crews out to the area.
Grant was riding as a passenger in an orange 2019 CF MOTO UTV driven by 24-year-old Destiny M. Gay of West Chazy. The two were traveling westbound when the vehicle went out of control on a straight section of the road.

Preliminary findings from the New York State Police show that the vehicle crossed over the north shoulder of Sunset Road. It hit a tree off the edge of the road, causing the utility vehicle to flip over.
Crew members from Lyon Mountain Fire and Rescue were the first to reach the location. Responders checked Grant and Gay for vital signs, but both occupants were unresponsive when help arrived.
The Clinton County Coroner’s Office went directly to the scene to assist state troopers. Both Grant and Gay were pronounced dead on the spot before crews moved them from the crash site.
Transport teams took both victims to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in nearby Plattsburgh. State police confirmed that autopsies were set to help investigators confirm the facts surrounding the wreck.
Troopers with Troop B are examining the road conditions, vehicle mechanics, and weather factors along Sunset Road. Community members in Hogansburg and West Chazy are mourning as officers work to figure out what went wrong.
