Jeremy Webb Sr. sat with his 15-year-old boy this weekend and listened close. The Salem High School football player told his dad the bus felt like it never slowed down. Not one bit. Then the driver lost control, hit another car, and the whole thing rolled over.
It was late Friday night. The team was heading home from a game in Norcross. Around 10:48 p.m. the bus came off I-20 eastbound in Rockdale County. It tried to turn right onto Highway 138. Instead it crossed both lanes, smashed into a black Kia Soul, kept going, and flipped. It almost spun a full circle before landing hard on the passenger side. The crash was only about four miles from the school.

Twenty-five students and staff went to hospitals. The bus had 17 football players, seven student trainers, two coaches, and the driver. One student got airlifted. Others rode ambulances or left with parents. Most were treated and out by Saturday afternoon. Both the bus driver and the Kia driver went to hospitals too.
Jeremy’s son ended up with a torn muscle and road rash. Doctors put him under concussion protocol. An ambulance took him to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Now he’s home. His dad is helping him through the early days of healing.
“He said it felt like the bus never slowed down,” Jeremy Webb Sr. told folks. He repeated what his boy remembered. “I’m like, whoa. Wait a minute, he ain’t slowing down. Like, what you doing? What you doing?”
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is looking into every detail. Rockdale County Public Schools confirmed the numbers on the bus. Webb said the real pain hits after the adrenaline fades. Recovery is just getting started for his son and the others.
Kids who were just playing football a few hours earlier found themselves in the middle of a wreck that changed the night fast. Families are focused on getting everyone steady again while the troopers dig into what happened on that exit ramp.
