Polish police officers arrested a 31-year-old man carrying a Ukrainian passport following a fatal stabbing at a Benedictine convent on Thursday.

Law enforcement officers dispatched to the Jarosław monastery around 9:30 a.m. after receiving multiple emergency calls about a violent assault.

Patrol units arrived at the historic abbey grounds and quickly tackled the suspect before he could flee into the surrounding streets.

Officers recovered a bloodied kitchen knife at the scene and took the suspect into custody without further incident.

Investigators confirmed that the suspect stabbed four men and one woman during the sudden rampage across the convent grounds.

Three of the male victims suffered critical injuries, with doctors confirming that one priest died during emergency medical treatment.

Prosecutors from Przemyśl and Jarosław arrived at the abbey to supervise forensic teams gathering physical evidence from the church.

Police authorities stated that the suspect had no clear personal connection to the monastery or the clergy members present.

Detectives continue questioning the detained foreign national to establish a timeline and figure out what triggered the violent attack.
