A 52-year-old Lincolnton man died when his motorcycle hit a culvert on Shuford Road. Randy Carroll Willis Jr. rode his 1997 Harley-Davidson south near Buffalo Shoals Road about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday. The bike crossed the center line. It ran off the left side and struck the culvert hard. He flew off and did not make it.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers handled the call. They found the bike in a home’s front yard. Randy died at the scene from his injuries. Crews could not do anything more for him.
Investigators checked everything. Speed was not a factor. Impairment was out too. Randy wore a helmet. The problem was it lacked Department of Transportation approval. That fact shows up clear in the findings.
