Tuesday morning started like any other on Perkins Road, but it turned into a nightmare for one local family. Malachi Antoine, a 22-year-old Baton Rouge resident, lost his life following a violent two-car crash during the morning rush. The wreck happened around 7:25 a.m. near Bles Avenue, right on the stretch between Bluebonnet Boulevard and Essen Lane.
Police say Antoine was driving eastbound in a Chevy Impala when things went wrong fast. Investigators reported that the car was moving at a high speed before it ran off the right side of the road. The Impala clipped the curb, lost control, flipped over, and slammed straight into a Dodge Ram.

Emergency crews got to the scene in a hurry. First responders pulled Antoine from the wrecked car and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Doctors and trauma staff did everything they could to save him, but his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead shortly after getting to the emergency room.
A second person involved in the crash suffered critical injuries during the impact. Paramedics treated that individual on site before taking them to the hospital for emergency care. Authorities have not released that person’s name or provided an update on how they are doing.
The crash brought out a massive response from local emergency agencies. Officers and crews from the Baton Rouge Police Department, Baton Rouge EMS, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, and St. George Fire Department all worked the scene. Officers closed down Perkins Road for hours, directing traffic while investigators marked tire tracks and gathered evidence.
Family members and friends are now left grieving the loss of a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. Antoine was only 22, an age when most young adults are just starting out and figuring out their future. Those who knew him best are leaning on each other and focusing on the good times they shared with him.
Baton Rouge police officers are still investigating what caused the Impala to leave the roadway. Authorities have not said whether mechanical failure, road conditions, or other factors contributed to the speed of the car. For now, folks in the community are rallying around Antoine’s family during a painful week.
